Vincent Kompany: "Should I Stop Because of What People Think?"

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has opened up about the mental health struggles he faced during his playing career.

In an interview with Belgian broadcaster VTM, Kompany revealed that he had suffered from anxiety and depression for many years.

"I was always afraid of failing," he said. "I was afraid of not being good enough."

Kompany's struggles with mental health began when he was a teenager. He was bullied at school and felt like he didn't fit in.

When he joined Manchester City in 2008, he was under intense pressure to perform. He was the club's captain and was expected to lead them to success.

Kompany said that the pressure of playing at the highest level took its toll on his mental health. He began to experience panic attacks and sleepless nights.

In 2013, Kompany was diagnosed with depression. He was prescribed medication and underwent therapy. He said that the treatment helped him to manage his condition.

Kompany retired from playing in 2019 and is now the manager of Anderlecht. He said that he is now in a much better place mentally.

"I'm not afraid to talk about my mental health anymore," he said. "I want to help others who are struggling with the same issues."

Kompany's story is an important reminder that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of their age, profession, or background. It is important to seek help if you are struggling with your mental health.
